This summer I spent some time with my dearest loves. Rocks. You know I love plants, but did you know that rocks are very close second? I made a commitment earlier this summer to lie on the ground three times a week for three months. They have been the most productive few minutes ever! Wish you could join me!
The rocks told me many things. They remind me to let go, because nothing bad will happen if I do. They tell me that time doesn’t matter and “just trust.”
The rocks told me that I need not worry, that I have everything I need inside me. The story is all there and it can change, and there is nothing to do. The rocks will always support me. Hold me up and never let me down. I can ask them anything. They are deep yet everything they say is simple and profound. We hear it and feel the revelation but realize it is just us remembering since we already knew, somewhere in our hearts.
Rocks, like everything, are transient, but that doesn’t mean you can’t count on them. Rocks make a home. They can hold our energy and have tons of patience. They show up. And stand up. Quietly and strongly. Yet, fragile as well. Reminding us that we are, each of us “both/and”; and can survive our own contradictions.
We are both strong and fragile. In fact, I’m starting to think that they go hand and hand. How can we be strong without being fragile? How can we be happy if we don’t know sadness? How can we be greatness if we can’t touch humility?
None of us are one way. We are all ways. When we think we are one way, it limits us in a way that hurts us and keeps us from what our heart tells us we are supposed to do.
Rocks are three dimensional and can be seen from all sides. What we see when we look is reflections of the light. (Just like us.)
And then rocks go beneath the surface, ever changing and incorporating a multi-story of material to their center. Each molecule the same and different. Connected, reflective, and sharing. Can you imagine the history they hold? The secrets? The knowing?
You don’t have to strain to hear it, it is right there for the taking if you don’t get in your own way.
I am feeling reflective today as I watch the storm brewing outside my window. The wind blowing and the clouds ready to let loose. I will walk out there this morning, and mix with the elements. See what words of wisdom they have for me today.
While I’m out there, I will think of all of you and send you some loving love.
